Woman arrested with help from iPhone app strikes officer

A woman who was arrested on suspicion of theft last month with the assistance of a smartphone app is back in jail after striking a Spokane police officer with her car during a traffic stop this weekend. Laci Anthony, 27, was booked into Spokane County Jail shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday, according to jail records. Police pulled her over near the corner of North Ash Street and West Gardner because of an outstanding felony warrant. When the officer approached Anthony and opened her car door, police say she hit the gas, knocking the officer to the pavement. The officer reported no injuries. Anthony was arrested a block away and faces a count of second-degree assault in the incident. It wasn’t the first time police say she attempted to evade arrest. Last month, Anthony was tracked by alleged victims following the theft of Apple devices from their cars parked in the South Perry district. The owners say a woman sped from the scene in a purple Honda, according to court documents. Using an iPhone application, the victims were able to point police to Anthony, who was found in possession of a MacBook and iPads reported stolen. When police began to question her, Anthony ran out a backdoor and leaped from a deck, according to court documents. She was apprehended and charged with obstruction and theft. Her failure to appear for court dates prompted the arrest Sunday, according to court documents. Anthony is scheduled to appear in court on the new charges this afternoon.
