Miles Kydd out as North Idaho College volleyball coach

North Idaho College volleyball coach Miles Kydd is out after one season.

Kydd’s contract will not be renewed, NIC athletic director Al Williams said. The search for Kydd’s replacement will begin soon, after the job opening is posted, Williams said. The players were informed of the coaching change at a meeting Monday.

“I just have a certain style of leadership I want for the program and the way we represent NIC athletics and I just felt we needed a change,” said Williams, noting that all NIC coaches are on one-year contracts. “This just wasn’t a good fit overall.”

NIC finished with an 18-12 record last season and placed third in the Scenic West Athletic Conference. The Cardinals advanced to the national tournament and finished fourth.

Kydd resigned as Eastern Washington University’s head coach four games into the 2012 season. He was 57-60 in four-plus seasons and was named the 2008 Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year after guiding the Eagles to the regular-season title.

After Bret Taylor stepped down following the 2007 season, NIC has had four coaches in six seasons. The Cardinals have advanced to nationals five times in those six seasons.

Assistant coach Kelsey Stanley will serve as interim coach, Williams said.
