Roundup: Schlosser carries Mead to GSL, district gym titles

Jenna Schlosser won the all-around title and her Mead Panthers wrapped up an undefeated Greater Spokane League season Wednesday during a four-way event at Mead Gymnastics Center that served as the District 8 4A meet.

Schlosser scored 36.7 points to edge the 35.35 of Central Valley’s Izzy Erdem and McKinzie Carter. Schlosser won the uneven bars (9.425) and floor exercise (9.525) while Carter took the balance beam (9.25) and vault (9.0).

The 4A regional is Feb. 15 at Mt. Rainier High.

Boys basketball

GSL: Shadle 44, North Central 27: Skylar Kelley scored 14 points to guide the Highlanders (5-9, 5-8) past the Indians (2-13, 2-11) at the Arena.

Girls basketball

GSL: Shadle Park 54, North Central 40: Shalise Hicks scored 14 points and the Highlanders (5-10, 5-8) got 20 points off turnovers to beat the Indians (2-13, 2-11) at the Arena.

Wrestling

GSL: University 54, Ferris 11: The Titans (9-0) capped their league championship with a win over the host Saxons (4-5). U-Hi’s Kevin Nielson (106) won an 8-6 overtime decision over Don Hume.

North Central 43, Shadle Park 29: Pins by Bryan Wais (152) and Cody Kiourkas (170) during the final three matches allowed the host Indians (6-3) to hold off the Highlanders (2-7). The Indians benefitted from three forfeits.

GNL: West Valley 42, Cheney 33: Ricky Miller (285) pinned Garrett Pederson in 47 seconds as the Eagles beat the host Blackhawks.

Deer Park 64, Pullman 6: Defending state champion Joe Grable (152) defeated Kosey Smith 18-3 as the visiting Stags defeated the Greyhounds.
