Give peace a chance

As a Washington voter who doesn’t want another war, I am proud that both Sens. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell have pushed back against a rush toward new sanctions in the Senate, which could sabotage the historic first-step nuclear deal with Iran.

As Murray wisely pointed out in a recent constituent letter, “the Administration should be given time to negotiate a strong verifiable comprehensive agreement.” When Cantwell was asked about the Senate sanctions legislation (S. 1881), she said “I think for now it’s appropriate to wait.”

I hope our senators will continue to push against new sanctions, and in support of the ongoing diplomatic efforts with Iran. The Friends Committee on National Legislation has more information on how Congress can support a peaceful resolution of the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program at:
