Indians rally to win in 9th

EUGENE – The Spokane Indians managed just one hit in the top of the ninth inning on Tuesday, but it was a big one.

Jose Trevino tripled with two outs after the Indians loaded the bases with three walks and Spokane came from behind to defeat the Eugene Emeralds 7-5 on Tuesday in Northwest League action.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa drew a leadoff walk from reliever Bryan Verbitsky to begin the ninth with the Indians trailing 5-4. Fernando Vivili and Saquan Johnson struck out and the Indians were down to their last out. But Seth Spivey walked, chasing Verbitsky in favor of Travis Radke. Juremi Profar worked Radke for a walk to load the bases and set the stage for Trevino who stroked what proved to be the game-winning hit to right field. Radke fanned Luke Tendler to end the inning.

Luis Pollorena (1-0), who entered the game with one out in the seventh inning, allowed a two-out double to Felipe Blanco, before striking out Cory Spangenberg to nail down his first win of the season. Blanco’s double was the only hit allowed by Pollorena in 2 2/3 innings. He struck out three with no walks and lowered his earned-run average to 1.42 on the season.

Reed Garrett started for Spokane and gave up three runs on four hits and a walk in five innings of work. He left the game with a 4-3 lead. In came Jason Hoppe and the lead evaporated when he surrendered back-to-back run-scoring singles to Yale Rosen and Miguel Del Castillo. Hoppe was pulled after allowing two runs on three hits and two walks in 1 1/3 innings.

Spokane took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Spivey doubled to center field to lead off the game and scored on two straight passed balls.

Eugene jumped in front with a three-run third inning, but the Indians recaptured the lead with a three-run fourth after Tony Wieber replaced starter Logan Jernigan.

Zach Cone had an RBI double and Kinier-Falefa delivered a two-run double to cap the scoring in the inning.
