Obituary: Thompson, Dorothy L.
Age 90
She passed away June 28, 2014.
Dorothy was born and raised in Everett, WA, where she met and married her husband “Red” Thompson in 1942.
While he went off to U.S. military service in WWII, she stayed home to care for family.
She went to work for Weisfield’s Jewelers in 1949, employment that lasted until her retirement in 1979.
A dedicated and hard-working employee, she started as a general office worker, progressed to bookkeeper, and then became head of the audit department, in charge of all new openings of Valu-Mart stores (a division of Weisfield’s Jewerers) in the Pacific Northwest.
She held this position until her retirement.
She dedicated her life to caring for her husband during his lengthy illness, her family, and her church.
In her early years she enjoyed traveling, RVing and boating with her family and friends.
She was very talented in numerous crafts, particularly card-making with her sister Margaret in her later years.
Those cards became treasures to all who received them.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Kenneth Thompson and his wife Marcy; her grandsons, Jeffrey Thompson and his wife Sarah, Jeramy Thompson and his wife Kelly; her sister, Margaret Lindstrom; her great-grandsons, Dean and Charlie Thompson; granddaughter, Sarah Thompson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins including, Barbara Barstad, Mary Bayne, Don Blay (Madeline), Carol Brady, Sandie Crandall, Bill Lindstrom (Sandy) and Sharon Zieseniss (Fred).
She was also “Great-Grandma Dorothy” to her Spokane family, including, Tim and Michele Greenwood, Ben, Nick, and Caleb Greenwood, Jamey and Andrea Sledge, and Emory Sledge.
Dorothy was a woman of great faith, and is also survived by her many friends at Moran United Methodist Church.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight “Red” Thompson; parents, Lawrence and Elsie Wilson; sisters, Edith Barstad, Lucile Blay, Reba Kelly; and her brother, Charles Wilson.
A Funeral Service will be held Monday, July 7 at 2:00 pm at Moran United Methodist Church, 3601 E. 65th Avenue.
Memorial contributions may be made to “Camperships” camp scholarships for children, in care of Moran United Methodist Church.
