In brief: Mobile COPS unit will be at Franklin Park on Saturday

FRANKLIN PARK – The North Hill Mobile COPS Unit will be in the south parking lot at Franklin Park, 5100 N. Division St., on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with crime prevention information, Block Watch and identity theft/fraud information.

Bike registration and Operation Family ID will also be available.

Humane Society event raises $45,000

SPOKANE – Participants in this year’s Pets on Parade on June 14 raised more than $45,000 for the Spokane Humane Society.

Nearly 500 people and their pets participated in the walk.

This year’s top fundraising teams were Fairchild Air Force Base, Animal Advocates, Teddy and the Drifters, Lupa’s Pack, Inspired by Pet Smart, Toby and Tailwaggers, and Garco Construction.

“As a completely nonprofit facility we rely on events like this and the generosity of our community to help care for unwanted pets,” said Dave Richardson, executive director of the Spokane Humane Society.

Back-to-school shoe drive starts Monday

MISSION PARK – The Mission Community Outreach Center will launch a back-to-school shoe drive to run from Monday through Aug. 10.

The center is hoping to collect 750 pairs of new, durable shoes and socks to be distributed to children in kindergarten through eighth grade on Aug. 22-23.

Donations may be dropped off at the center at 1906 E. Mission Ave. Hours are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Cash donations are welcome.

Men’s Wearhouse collecting clothes

SPOKANE – Men’s Wearhouse is collecting gently used men’s and women’s suits, ties, jackets, shirts, pants, belts and shoes for its annual Giving the Suit off Your Back campaign.

Donors receive 50 percent off their next purchase (excluding shoes, clearance and exceptional value items) as a thank-you for the donation.

Clothing collected from the drive will be donated to Artisans, a nonprofit organization that provides employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
