The names of the 12 police officers who exchanged gunfire with suspect Marcus A. Rael on I-90 on June 22 have been identified.

All the officers remain on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues.

Police have said previously that Coeur d’Alene Police officers tried to pull Rael over on Sherman Avenue in Coeur d’Alene when he fled. Rael stopped at the Spokane Street exit in Post Falls and exchanged gunfire with officers from four different agencies.

The officers are: Cpl. Joshua Kagarice, Idaho State Police; Deputy Paul Mead, Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office; Deputy Erik Hedlund, Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office; Senior Officer Brett Chapman, Post Falls Police; Officer Jason Mealer, Post Falls Police; and Senior Officer Alexander Sporleder, Post Falls Police.

Officers from the Coeur d’Alene Police Department involved in the incident are August Wessel, Joshua Schneider, Dustin Taylor, Nate Petersen, Jordan Noble and Andy Tenney.

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office released only the officers’ last names and first initials and refused to provide the first names when asked. First names were determined through staff research.
