Indians finish road trip with a dud, lose to Eugene

EUGENE – Marcus Davis doubled off Spokane starter Nick Gardenwine with the bases loaded to cap a three-run third inning and the Eugene Emeralds (10-11) cruised to the finish, beating the visiting Indians 6-1 on Thursday night.

Spokane (15-6) had opportunities early but failed to deliver with two men on in the first and second innings, allowing Eugene starter Adrian De Horta (1-1) to cruise the rest of the way.

De Horta threw five innings of five-hit, one-run ball while walking three and striking out one.

Gardenwine (4-1) picked up his first defeat of the season and his immediate replacement – reliever Ryan Ledbetter – didn’t fare any better, surrendering three more earned runs in the sixth inning before being chased with one out in the frame.

Jose Trevino drove in Spokane’s lone run with a two-out double in the fifth inning that plated Eduard Pinto and cut the Emeralds’ lead briefly to 3-1.

After a walk, a single and a hit batter to start the Eugene half of the sixth, Michael Miller drove in two runs with a double and Jalen Goree capped the scoring with an RBI single.

The Indians return home tonight for the first of three games with the Vancouver Canadians.
