In brief: Divers pull boy, 11, from Long Lake

Emergency divers pulled an 11-year-old boy trapped by a log from Long Lake on Friday afternoon.

A Northwest MedStar crew flew the boy to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane after attempting to resuscitate him.

He had been swimming with family, according to reports from KHQ. Initial reports indicated the boy may have been underwater for more than 30 minutes.

The boy’s name and condition were not released Friday.

Police arrest man in girl’s alleged rape

Coeur d’Alene police have arrested a 26-year-old Canadian man suspected of raping a 16-year-old girl he met online.

Joshua MacKenzie, of Alberta, appeared in court Wednesday.

Kootenai County prosecutors said MacKenzie and the girl had been having sexual conversations online for several months. Court records say MacKenzie picked up the girl Monday night and took her to a hotel.

Sgt. Christie Wood said the girl’s mother called police the next day after learning what happened.

Montana bear attack under investigation

State and federal officials are investigating a woman’s report that she and her dogs were attacked by a black bear as they ran on Forest Service land northwest of Columbia Falls, Montana.

Initial reports indicate the bear attacked the woman’s dogs and then went after her late Thursday morning.

The Forest Service has closed the area and is trying to capture the bear. The state Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks also is investigating.

No information on the extent of injuries was released.
