Obituary: Medjo, James Eric “Jim”
Age 71
As a child the family moved from Duluth to Los Angeles, CA.
Jim graduated from Belmont High School, where he excelled at sports, playing varsity football on the offensive line and first base on the varsity baseball team.
After graduation Jim and his brother enlisted in the Air Force and served at Fairchild Air Force Base from 1961-1965 as K9 Military Police.
After serving his country, Jim went on to community college and then a successful management career in the grocery business.
Jim did not measure success by his own profession, but in watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow and accomplish their own strong careers and families.
When not coaching or attending a multitude of child/grandchild related sporting events (and cheering very loudly), Jim was at peace on the water chasing the ever-elusive trophy trout.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his brother, Richard Medjo (Doreen) of Phoenix; and his children from first wife Gloria, including Jacqueline van Wormer (Roy), Michelle McLees (Mark) and Mark Medjo (Keri) all of Spokane.
His wife of 25 years, beloved Betty Mae and her five children also survive Jim, BJ Snyder (Keith) of Spokane, Linda Basta (Jim) of Portland, Artie Siebert (Reenie) of Portland, Joseph Tambe of Spokane and Angie Lemer (Jason) of Spokane.
Jim also held closely and is survived by his nephew Robert Medjo (Cindy) of Bothell.
Jim would proudly tell anyone who would ask that he and Betty had 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Jim was humble and unassuming, and opened his heart to those he considered close friends and extended family.
He left us far too early and quickly, after a brief and fearless three-week battle with cancer.
We wish to honor the many gifts he gave to all of us by celebrating his life on Monday, July 7, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Sunset Chapel, Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W. Wellesley Ave. We wish to thank the staff and nurses at Holy Family ICU for the care of our father and husband.
In lieu of flowers we would ask that donations be made in Jim’s name to the American Cancer Society.
