In brief: Collision injures three near Loon Lake

From Staff And Wire Reports

Three people were injured Saturday afternoon in a crash near Loon Lake, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Judy D. Stalder, 72, of Springdale, Washington, was driving west about 3:45 p.m. on Garden Spot Road in a 2005 Dodge Dakota when she attempted to cross U.S. Highway 395 and was struck by a southbound 2014 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Blake R. Williams, 19, of Spokane.

Stalder, Williams and a passenger in Williams’ pickup, Cristian Bran, 18, of Spokane Valley, were transported to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center.

The WSP said Stalder would be cited for failure to yield.

Bystanders pull pair of rafters from river

TACOMA – Authorities said good Samaritans helped save a man and a 12-year-old boy who fell into the Nisqually River after their raft flipped.

The News Tribune reported a 48-year-old Tacoma man was in critical condition Friday night at Providence St. Peter Hospital.

Sgt. Alvin Griffin with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said the two were floating in a raft Friday afternoon when it flipped near a log jam. Neither wore a life jacket.

People at a nearby campground used a garden hose to pull the boy from the river.

The man, meanwhile, had floated downriver. A bystander jumped in a car to follow him and then alerted a group of Navy personnel who were on a sandbar. That Navy group jumped into the river, pulled the man out and performed CPR.
