In Brief: Dawn Harper-Nelson sets year’s best 100-meter hurdles time

Track and field: Dawn Harper-Nelson of the United States ran a year-leading 12.44 seconds to win the 100-meter hurdles at the Paris Diamond League meeting Saturday in Paris while Hansle Parchment of Jamaica set the fastest time in the 110 hurdles this season.

Harper-Nelson edged Queen Harrison by 0.02 to better Brianna Rollins’ time of 12.53 set in Rome last month.

Parchment ran 12.94 to stun world champion David Oliver and Olympic runner-up Jason Richardson.

“I was not thinking to run that fast today,” Parchment said. “Now, I have the feeling I can run even faster. I made some mistakes. I need to improve my technique and keep winning.”

Michael Rodgers took the 100 in 10.00. Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell pulled out of the meet because of injury.

Hurley builds lead to 2 at Greenbrier Classic

Golf: Billy Hurley III shot a 3-under 67 to extend his lead to two strokes over Angel Cabrera after the third round of the Greenbrier Classic in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

Hurley never relinquished the lead at Old White TPC. He had a 12-under 198 total.

Stadler leads French Open by four after three rounds: In challenging conditions, Kevin Stadler shot a 1-over 72 and managed to extend his lead to four strokes after the third round of the French Open in Saint-Quentin-En-Yvelines, France. Stadler endured wind gusts and brief showers and made two bogeys and a birdie for a 9-under 204 total.

Browns WR Gordon charged with DWI

NFL: Police said Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after speeding down a street in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Police spokesman Jim Sughrue said Gordon was taken into custody after being pulled over for going 50 mph in a 35 mph zone on U.S. 70 in northwest Raleigh around 3 a.m. Saturday.

Gordon was released on bail.

AP sources: Mavs bringing back Harris

NBA: The Dallas Mavericks are bringing back point guard Devin Harris, according to sources.

The 31-year-old Harris played for Dallas on a one-year, $3 million deal last season, missing the first half of the year after offseason toe surgery.

Long shot Mr Speaker wins Belmont Derby

Miscellany: Mr Speaker pulled a 23-1 upset in the $1.25 million Belmont Derby Invitational for 3-year-olds on the turf in New York.

The Belmont Derby was the richest of five stakes on the inaugural “Stars and Stripes Day” at Belmont Park.

Mr Speaker made a run up the rail to edge Adelaide by a neck.

• Clearly Now sets track record in Belmont Sprint: Clearly Now won the $400,000 Belmont Sprint Championship, beating Palace by 6 1/4 lengths in a record time. The 4-year-old ran 7 furlongs in 1:19.96 on the fast track, erasing the mark of 1:20.17 set by Left Bank in 2002.

One-handed fighter loses: Lightweight champion Justin Gaethje scored a second-round TKO over one-handed fighter Nick Newell in their World Series of Fighting mixed martial arts bout in Daytona Beach, Florida.
