Too many hospitals?

We drove by the new Providence Medical Park facility in the Spokane Valley, and I was shocked – it is huge and beautiful. Sacred Heart has served Spokane and surrounding areas well for many years. My husband was born there in 1922, as were my children, and it is a great hospital.

Since moving to the Valley, we have enjoyed Valley General and have been pleased with its services throughout the years. In a recent Spokesman-Review article, hospitals were rated and Valley General was well below other hospitals in infections and complications. Is powerful Providence Sacred Heart moving in and wiping out the little guy? After all, Providence Sacred Heart is only minutes away from the Valley.

Can the Valley support another hospital? Valley General served our community well for many years, and I hate to think of it being squashed out by a bigger and more powerful organization.
