Woman, armed with knife, killed by officers in Sandpoint

The Bonner County Sheriff’s Office is withholding the name of a 35-year-old woman shot and killed by Sandpoint police officers Tuesday night. The woman was armed with a knife, refused commands to drop the knife and “aggressed the officers,” Detective Sgt. Gary Johnston of the sheriff’s office said today in a news release. “The officers responded to the threat using lethal force,” Johnston said. The confrontation was near Bonner General Hospital, which was locked down. Bonner EMS and hospital ER staff attended to the woman after the shooting, but she died. The sheriff’s office is coordinating a multi-agency investigation of the shooting. Neither the woman’s name nor the names of the officers involved are being released at this time. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Johnston at (208) 263-8417 ext. 3058.
