In brief: Apply for swim lesson scholarships

 

Spokane – More than 140 swim lesson scholarships are available from the Spokane Parks and Recreation Department.

The scholarships can be used at all six of the city’s pools.

Applications are available at the My Spokane desk at City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. Families must show financial need; for example, a family of four may earn no more $43,568 a year.

Adoption fees at SCRAPS waived through Sunday

SPOKANE COUNTY – Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service took in 89 dogs and 145 cats during the first six days of July.

These pets were found with no identification tags or microchips, and they are in immediate need of new homes.

SCRAPS is waiving the normal adoption fees through Sunday and anyone adopting an animal only needs to pay for a license: $15 for a cat and $25 for a dog.

SCRAPS is at 6815 E. Trent Ave. and hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Wednesday from noon to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

NEVADA-LIDGERWOOD – The Lyons Park housing development is having its annual yard sale Friday, Saturday and Sunday – each day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The sale is located in the 1100 block of East Lyons Avenue.

SPOKANE COUNTY – Area Mister Car Wash locations are participating in its annual “Paws-a-Thon” now through July 15.

The event kicked off July 1. Customers may purchase a paw for $1, $5 or $10. Proceeds will benefit the Spokane Humane Society.

Mister Car Wash has locations in Spokane at 1022 N. Division St., 1615 W. Five Mile Road and 6420 N. Division St., and in Spokane Valley at 423 N. Pines Road and 307 N. Sullivan Road.
