Robbery suspect shooting investigation turned over to prosecutor

The Washington State Patrol announced late Thursday that the investigation into the officer involved shooting death of Stephen C. Corkery was complete and has been turned over to the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office for review. Spokane Police had tied Corkery to several armed robberies at local espresso stands and other businesses and attempted to arrest him at a home at 1527 W. Grace Ave. on March 26. He was shot by police when he exited the home holding a gun. The gun was later determined to be a pellet gun. According to court documents, 14 shell casings were found at the scene. The Spokane Police officers involved in the shooting have been identified as Sgts. John Roys and Kevin Keller and Officers Paul Buchmann, Sean Wheeler and Art Dollard. The report does not include any recommendations on possible charges, said WSP Trooper Jeff Sevigney. “We just gather the facts and hand it over,” he said.
