Lake Spokane campground closed during wildfire

From staff reports
State officials have closed Spokane Lake Campground, its day-use area and boat launch to the public while a nearby wildfire blazes in Stevens County. Crews are using the site for logistical operations to support the firefighting effort. But they’re encountering members of the public who still want access to the site, said Jessica Payne, a Department of Natural Resources spokeswoman. “We’re asking the public to stay clear of Spokane Lake recreation area so fire crews can focus on their work,” she said in a statement. “By visiting other sites, you will be helping the firefighters fight the fire. We understand the inconvenience of this situation and greatly appreciate your support.” Other options for camping, swimming and boat access include Riverside State Park, Nine Recreation Area Campground, two public boat launches at the south end of Lake Spokane and Dragoon Creek Campground. Members of the public can follow the situation on a DNR blog, which will be updated as conditions change: http://bit.ly/1mDSQgV Questions about reservations at Spokane Lake Campground can be answered at (509) 465-5064.
