Scolari out as coach of Brazil soccer team

The Brazilian football confederation says it won’t keep Luiz Felipe Scolari as Brazil’s head coach. The confederation said in a statement Monday that Scolari will not be coming back after the national team’s embarrassing finish at the World Cup. Scolari had promised to win the tournament at home, but Brazil was eliminated in the semifinals after a disastrous 7-1 loss to Germany in the national team’s worst defeat in its 100-year history. Brazil also fell 3-0 to the Netherlands in the third-place match. Scolari’s contract ended after the World Cup and he said it would be up to the confederation to decide whether he would remain at the helm of the five-time world champions. His replacement was not immediately announced. – Associated Press
