MONROE, Wash. – Former Washington football coach Jim Lambright faces a court appearance next month on an assault charge.

The 72-year-old was arrested June 18 and has been charged with fourth-degree assault on his 23-year-old granddaughter. His arraignment is set for Aug. 4 in Evergreen District Court in Monroe.

Lambright’s granddaughter told sheriff’s deputies he tried to drag her out of the house by her ankle.

According to court documents, Lambright told authorities he didn’t want to hurt her but he was sick of her attitude and didn’t understand why his grandchildren had to visit all the time.

Lambright’s wife told authorities he suffers from dementia.

Snohomish County prosecutors say that as of Thursday, no attorney has given notice of appearing on Lambright’s behalf.

Lambright was head coach of the Huskies for six seasons, starting in 1992.
