Obituary: Mcgough, Joseph L.

Age 91

MCGOUGH, Joseph L. Papa Joe passed away Monday, July 21 2014, peacefully in his sleep after a long battle with cancer.

He left behind a large, loving family who will miss him every day of their lives.

He is now joyfully reunited with God; his parents, James Leo and Catherine Teresa McGough; and his siblings: Ralph Clement, Imelda Rose, William James and Martin Dolan.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Violet McGough, who never left his side; and his sisters: Mary Clare Misek, Rita Margaret Sterling and Barbara Ann Burns; as well as his children: Tom McGough, Steve McGough, Janet Seidle, Marvin Seal, Bruce Seal and Dan McGough.

Also surviving Joe are his twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

All of us mourn his passing and will remember him with love, laughter and many wonderful memories.

Joe was born to Leo and Catherine on July 25, 1923 in Sprague, Washington.

He graduated from Sprague High School and worked his parents farm with his siblings until he became a truck driver in 1950.

He married Violet Seal in 1962 and Daniel Joseph McGough was born in 1963.

Joe drove long haul until he retired as a teamster out of local 690 in 1983.

He was blessed with over twenty years of retirement that he chose to spend with his family, his friends and his church.

Papa Joe left us just a few days before his 91st birthday, but he left us all with a legacy of love and understanding, laughter and wisdom.

We will miss his smile and his quick wit, his hard-earned discipline and the lessons he taught us about the values of truth, loyalty, love of family and God.

We were blessed to have had him as our patriarch for so many years and we are proud to say he was ours.

Please join us in celebrating Papa Joe’s life at a Rosary and Vigil at Hennessey Funeral Home on Friday, July 25th at 5 p.m. and a memorial service on Saturday, July 26th at St. Charles Catholic Church at 10 a.m.

Immediately following services at St. Charles there will be a lunch for all friends and family.

There will be a grave-side service for family at Holy Cross cemetery after the memorial service.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Spokane in Joe’s name.
