Spokane Highland Games includes shortbread contest

You don’t have to be an expert – or have your Scottish great-grandmother’s recipe – to enter the annual Ruth Schudel Memorial Shortbread Contest.

First-, second- and third-place prizes will be awarded in two categories: traditional and flavored. The top winner gets $30. Second-place wins $20. And third takes $10.

The contest takes place Aug. 2 during the Spokane Highland Games at the Spokane Fair and Expo Center at Broadway Avenue and Havana Street in Spokane Valley.

The festival costs $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and youth, and $5 for children. It runs from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Shortbread entries must be delivered by 1 p.m.
