Twenty-two apply for Spokane City Council

Twenty-two people have submitted their names as applicants to replace departing Spokane City Councilman Steve Salvatori, including Rob Higgins, the former City Council president. Salvatori resigned his seat earlier this summer to pursue his business interests in Dallas, Tex. The appointee will fill the remaining 17 months on Salvatori’s four-year term representing District 3 in northwest Spokane. Besides Higgins, candidates are Deborah Zel Bessmer, Michael Cannon, Kelly Cruz, Adrian E. Dominquez, Victor R. Frazier, Donald E. Gibson, Merle D. Gilliland and Julie Griffith. Also, Eric Jason Iannelli, Jon Jantz, Amber Joplin, Karen M. Kearney, Kitty (Melanie) Klitzke, Donna Kuhn, Mary A. Lee, Eric Miller, Rachael Paschal Osborn, Jennifer Ross, Karen J. Stratton, Paul Van Sickle and David B. White. Applications for the position closed Thursday.
