Sat., July 26, 2014, 9:57 p.m.

KEIZER, Ore. – Jose Cardona picked up three hits and an RBI in his second game with Spokane as the Indians broke through with their first victory of the Northwest League’s second half, defeating the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 4-1 Saturday night.

The Indians, first-half champions in the North Division, salvaged the final game of the five-game series after losing the first four to begin the second half.

The bottom four hitters in the Indians lineup – Juremi Profar, Cardona, Chuck Moorman and Saquan Johnson – combined for 10 of the team’s 12 hits. Profar had three hits and Moorman and Johnson two each.

Moorman broke a 1-1 tie in the second with an RBI single.

Derek Thompson (4-4) gave up eight hits in six innings, but just the one run to get the win. He walked none and struck out three. Erik Swanson struck out the side in the seventh and John Fasola finished the final two innings with four strikeouts for his fourth save.

Spokane is host to Vancouver tonight to open an eight-game homestand before the league’s All-Star break.
