Mt. Spokane, Gonzaga Prep win first-round AA tournament games

Gonzaga Prep defeated Mt. Vernon 7-3 and Mt. Spokane edged FM Sports 12-11 Saturday to advance to the second round of the American Legion State AA tournament in Spokane.

G-Prep erased an early 1-0 deficit with a three-run third inning. Cael McKeirnan got the win for G-Prep.

Mt. Spokane rallied from an 11-4 deficit, scoring six runs in the fifth inning and adding two more in the seventh. Riley Robinett had three RBIs for Mt. Spokane.

Mt. Spokane plays the Kennewick Dusters at 5:30 p.m. today at Whitworth. G-Prep faces Chehalis at 7 p.m. at Al K. Jackson Field.

In other first-round games, Ferris fell to Centralia 8-2. Mead rallied to a 3-3 tie in the seventh, before losing to Anacortes 4-3 on a bases-loaded single.

Mead will face Montesano at 8:30 a.m. at Whitworth, and Ferris will play Eastlake at 10 a.m. at Jackson in loser-out games.

In AAA action at Centralia, the Hanford Flames came from behind to beat the Spokane Bandits 10-6. Spokane led 6-2 through six innings, but Hanford rallied with five runs in the ninth.

The Bandits will play Pepsi Pak today at noon.
