Obituary: Mcclelland, Tom

Age 79

McCLELLAND, Tom (Age 79) Tommy Lee McClelland of Hemet, CA., died July 11, 2014.

Born November 3, 1934, to Jerry and Irene McClelland in Spokane, WA., he spent most of his childhood in Sandpoint, Idaho, graduat- ing from high school in 1953.

He and Phyllis Quass of Sandpoint were married in November 1953.

After he completed a tour of duty in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper, the couple settled in Sandpoint.

They later separated.

He is survived by their three children, Dean of Seattle, WA., Suzan Sawyer of Cadeate, Ecuador, South America, and Rick of Blanchard, Idaho.

Tom married Jodi McCourt from Colorado in August 1965.

She passed away after 44 years of marriage.

Old-time Newman Lake, WA., residents will remember their 32 years of residency on the entrance road to Honeymoon Bay named the “Relation Station,” with the 20-foot-high imitation palm tree covered with handprints and initials of friends and relations.

Tom was a member of the Washington/Idaho Plasterers and Cement Masons Union Local No.

72 for 42 years.

Tom is also survived by his “later-life special friend,” Eleanor Streed of Hemet; his last remaining brother, Lloyd McClelland of Sandpoint; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

We will all miss his characteristic mischievous smile, great sense of humor and easygoing nature.
