Spokane to host NCAA Division I women’s basketball regional

From staff reports

For the fifth time in recent years, Spokane will host part of the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship, according to a news release from the NCAA.

The 2015 Spokane Regional semifinal games will be played at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena and will be hosted by Washington State University. The games will be played either March 27 or 28, with the final held March 29 or 30. The winner of the regional will advance to the final four in Tampa Bay, Florida, on April 5 and 7, the release said.

“Spokane has proven to be a great host for our championship in the past,” said Carolayne Henry, chairman of the Division I Women’s Basketball Committee and senior associate commissioner of the Mountain West Conference.

Spokane will replace Sacramento, California, which was scheduled to host the regional championship, but had to bow out due to a scheduling conflict at its Sleep Train Arena.

The 2015 Spokane Regional will be the fifth NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship event hosted at the Arena. Regional games were held there in 2001, 2008 and 2013, and first- and second-round games were held there in 2011.
