Biblical marriage solid

I am hesitant to throw around terms like “ignorant,” a social progressive mainstay, but the May 24 attack on Christian thought demands a response. Chris Halverson and Jackson Colby’s disdain for “Biblical teachings on marriage” was quite remarkable.

What are these loathsome, outdated teachings? The biblical view of marriage and sexuality, rediscovered by the Reformation, is as follows: Marriage is the union of a man and a woman, uniquely different but equal before God in stature and value. Before their community they pledge themselves to each other for life and to be held accountable by that community.

Because of this commitment, they may enter into an active sexual relationship with each other that brings pleasure, satisfaction and the miraculous gift of creating new life. Because they are committed to each other as a family, the children they create have a good chance to grow up in a stable and loving environment; the basis for strong individuals and a strong society.

The truly odd thing about attacking this ideal is that it still sounds pretty much like everyone’s dream life. It is also the model essentially every study made on raising children finds optimum. So what exactly is the problem?
