Obituary: Sexson, Ruth Louise (Johnston)
Age 77
Over the course of the last four years, she fought a determined battle against recurrent breast cancer.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and she is survived by her husband Jess Sexson, her children Renee Mulligan, Anthony (Tony) Sexson, and Shannon Sexson, her grandchildren Michaela Mulligan, Tyler Sexson, Gavin Sexson and Maxwell Sexson and her sister Marilyn Seefried.
She was raised in the upper Okanogan Valley where the Johnston family were amound the first to homestead there.
Her maternal family (Forney) migrated from western Colorado to Oroville becoming successful orchardists in the area.
Ruth grew up on a cattle ranch, so with no brothers, she was the “live in ranch hand”.
Graduating from Oroville High School in 1954, Ruth attended Kinman Business School and landed her first full time job at Washington Water Power.
After marrying in 1957 she worked at Deaconess Hospital.
Later, in addition to being a full-time Mom, she worked as an administrative assistant in the Everett School District, Angelo State University in Texas and GTE (now Verizon).
She even spent a summer working for the Houston Oiler football team!
After retirement in 1993, she and Jess returned to Spokane and built her dream home.
Ruth was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother and friend, as well as a faithful and dedicated servant to others in her church.
She was a beloved sister of P.E.O.
for 46 years.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at the Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made in her name to a charity of your choice.
Interment of her cremated remains will be in the Remembrance Garden of Riverview Memorial Cemetery, among the pines overlooking the Spokane River.
We will be apart but for a little while.
