State softball: Colton claims sixth straight 1B championship

Colton scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 4-all tie and the Wildcats went on to beat Touchet (17-7) 9-4 to claim their sixth straight State 1B softball championship Saturday at Gateway Sports Complex in Yakima.

Winnie Schultheis drove in three runs and Jenna Moser added three hits and scored twice for Colton.

The Wildcats (21-2) routed Almira/Coulee-Hartline 11-1 in the semifinals earlier in the day to advance to the title game.

ACH clipped Wishkah Valley 3-1 in the consolation semifinals and then captured third place with a 13-3 victory over Quilcene.

Earlier, Quilcene beat Curlew (19-6) 10-5 in the consolation bracket.

Garfield-Palouse/Tekoa-Oakesdale rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh and beat Northwest Christian (23-5) 5-4 in a loser-out consolation game at Gateway Sports Complex in Yakima.

The Crusaders’ Hannah Hustad, who took the loss, hit a three-run home run in the fifth to give Northwest Christian a 3-0 lead.

Chandler Pfaff earned the win for Garfield-Palouse/Tekoa-Oakesdale (14-13).

GPTO was eliminated in the next round after falling 11-1 to Morton-White Pass.

Colfax finished 17-8 after falling to Morton-White Pass 8-7 in another consolation game.
