Obituary: Goebel, Robert “Bob”
GOEBEL, Robert “Bob” It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Bob Goebel after a long illness. He is survived by his precious wife Harriet, children Marilyn (Fritz), Steve (Rene’), Terry (Janet), and Greg, three grandchildren, brother Fred, sister Doris Steger, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was born in 1919 and raised in the Rockford area, graduating from Rockford High School. He was trained as a carpenter and was on active service with the Army during World War II. After the war, he worked in construction and started his own company in 1962. It is hard to drive through Spokane without seeing many of the buildings he constructed over the last 50 years. He was very active in the North Spokane Rotary Club and other philanthropic groups, especially the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery, the Rockford Historical Society, and the Salvation Army, which bestowed on him their William Booth award. He was also president of the YMCA Board. His biggest pleasure in life was fishing for the “big one,” and he made a final fishing trip to Alaska at the age of 90 with his nine-year-old grandson. He was a very gentle man, a loving husband and father. Many thanks to the caring staff at Harbor Glen and Hospice of Spokane and especially to Jim Cottier for all their support during the last difficult years. A celebration of life will be held Friday, June 6, 10:30 am, at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home, 5100 W. Wellesley. His final resting place is Fairview Cemetery at Rockford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.
