Obituary: Wiggs, Russell Lee

WIGGS, Russell Lee (Age 85) Passed away peacefully May 17, 2014 in Spokane, WA at Spokane Hospice.

He was born in Seattle, WA to Russell Lombard Wiggs and Philura Mary Wiggs June 18th 1928.

He is survived by his 2nd wife Peggy of 42 years, the love of his life.

Daughters: Janey Wiggs D’Amato (Robert), Lexington, MA; Nancy Quint (Brian), Bellevue, WA; and Mychele Lindval LeBoa (Carl), Seattle, WA.

Sister, Phyllis Ackerman, Casper, WY.

Stepdaughters, Sherri Stevens, Spokane, WA; Linda Erickson, (Dan) Post Falls, ID.

Numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and step grandchildren.

Russell was a graduate of North Central High School & WSU earning a degree in Electrical Engineering.

About the time of the Korean conflict was drafted into the Army.

He piloted fixed wing aircraft and helicopters.

Also had the privilege of transporting Dwight D. Eisenhower and his son, John to nearby bases.

He received many medals including the Bronze Star, Silver Star and many air medals having been shot down in the Chor Won Valley.

He retired with the rank of Captain.

After the war he went to work for Boeing in Seattle, WA & then became Sales Engineer for Superior Electric.

Russell had a major stroke at age 32.

Through extensive rehab, his strong determination and positive “can do” attitude recovered remarkably well living life to it’s fullest.

He was a people person and left a positive impression on those he met with inspiration and a smile.

A long time member of Moose Lodge, Lions Club, and First Presbyterian Church.

Enjoyed helping others, exercise, flower gardening, dancing, playing cards, reading, football, basketball, hockey, and travel.

The family wishes to express our heartfelt appreciation and our love for the wonderful care he received at the Spokane Veterans Home during his lengthly illness.

Many thanks to Spokane Hospice in his last days.

Interment Service for Russ, (Rev.

Don Meekhof, officiating) will be held at Washington State Veterans Cemetery (Medical Lake, WA) Friday, June 6th at 2:15.

(21702 West Espanola Road).

At a future date, a celebration of his life will be held at Spokanes Veterans Home.

In lieu of flowers donations to Spokane Hospice.
