Sheriff: Moscow man dies after accidental gunshot

A 66-year-old Moscow man died after a pistol he was carrying down some stairs in his home misfired during a fall, the Latah County Sheriff’s Office said.

Michael J. Snow was pronounced dead in his home on Cameron Road in Moscow shortly after 12:30 p.m. Thursday, according to a news release. Snow was home alone at the time of the gun’s discharge, which investigators with the sheriff’s office and Idaho State Police determined occurred as Snow walked down a stairway to his basement.

A single bullet was fired from the .22 caliber pistol Snow was carrying, in addition to two rifles. The round struck him in the chest, killing him.

Snow’s wife discovered her husband’s body when she returned home from work, the Sheriff’s Office said.
