In brief: Man dies when gun goes off during fall

A Moscow man died Thursday after a pistol he was carrying down some stairs in his home misfired during a fall, the Latah County Sheriff’s Office said.

Michael J. Snow, 66, was pronounced dead in his home on Cameron Road in Moscow shortly after 12:30 p.m., according to a news release. Snow was home alone at the time of the gun’s discharge, which occurred as Snow walked down a stairway to his basement, investigators have determined.

A single bullet was fired from the .22-caliber pistol Snow was carrying, in addition to two rifles. The round struck him in the chest, killing him.

Snow’s wife discovered her husband’s body when she returned home from work, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Man seriously injured in mobile home fire

A man suffered serious burns Friday night in a mobile home fire south of Medical Lake.

Firefighters were called to the residence in the 14000 block of South Salnave Road about 7:10 p.m.

Flames had overtaken the double-wide trailer and already had spread to an attached shop by the time crews arrived, said Spokane County Fire District 3 Capt. Mike Moravec.

“Fire was coming out of all four sides,” he said. “The back part of the building was already collapsed.”

A man who lives in the mobile home suffered “extensive burns” to his face and upper body. He escaped on his own and made it to a neighbor’s home before firefighters were on the scene.

Because of his condition, he was not able to provide firefighters with many details of what happened, Moravec said.

“He only told us the fire started in the kitchen,” Moravec said. “There’s nothing left of the building itself.”

Second suspect held in invasion robbery

The second suspect in a home invasion robbery that netted trash bags full of marijuana was arrested Thursday. Bobby S. Galloway, 26, is being held in the Spokane County Jail on $50,000 bond on charges of first-degree armed robbery and first-degree burglary.

A fight was reported in the 1800 block of West Gardner Avenue on May 19 and police arrived to find a man assaulting a resident in his backyard. Cyrus L. Quarles, 23, was arrested that day and is being held on $250,000 bond on the same charges.

The resident told police that he has a medical marijuana card and grows marijuana. He said Galloway and Quarles forced their way inside his home, assaulted him and demanded money. Nina Culver
