Liberty Lake Blotter: Businesses plagued by thefts

Theft has been a problem at Liberty Lake businesses recently and the week of May 27 to June 2 is no exception.

An employee in the 1200 block of North Liberty Lake Road called police just before 3 p.m. May 27 to report that a man had filled a cart with $596 worth of alcohol. The same man is suspected of stealing $580 worth of alcohol on May 23 as well, said Police Chief Brian Asmus. When the man noticed that store employees were watching him on May 27, he left the cart and exited the store.

Police obtained copies of video surveillance and are investigating the incident.

A woman wearing a tie-dye shirt reportedly stole $15 in greeting cards in the 1300 block of North Liberty Lake Road on May 28. Police were called back to the 1200 block of North Liberty Lake Road just before 3 p.m. on May 30. Store employees told police that a juvenile male had eaten several items while walking through the store and then attempted to leave without paying for the items. The 14-year-old boy was released to his mother, Asmus said. A theft charge is pending.
