Support crisis intervention
My son, Will Berger, died after an early evening encounter with two members of the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office on June 6, 2013. Because of the tragedy, I am promoting mandatory crisis intervention training for all law enforcement officers authorized to use lethal force in Washington. My campaign started on June 3, in Will’s hometown, Port Angeles, at a City Council meeting.
This summer, I plan to ride my bike into every county and visit every county seat to promote crisis intervention training. There was a bill – HB 1559 – in the Legislature that addressed this issue. I hope to work within the system and get the bill back to the original language. Hopefully, if enough people get involved, the bill will pass before the end of this year.
My wife and I traveled to Spokane on June 6 and held a candlelight vigil. You can keep track of our travels by checking the website: willbfund.org.
