2: Canty claimed to have been offered football scholarships by schools such as Oregon, Washington and Vanderbilt, and listed a basketball scholarship offer from California. When he signed with WSU in February, he said he was going to try and play both sports in college.

The Northwest League opener is still a few days away, but plenty of activity has begun at Avista Stadium for another season of Spokane Indians baseball.

One change this year is the installation of five high-definition cameras that will allow the parent-club Texas Rangers to follow every pitch and swing of the bat in Spokane. Dustin Toms, the Indians’ director of public relations, offered a glimpse at the cameras Thursday while workers of all kinds got ready for the opener, Friday at Avista against Eugene.
