In brief: Othello man, 31, drowns in Long Lake

A 31-year-old Othello, Washington, man with Down syndrome drowned in Long Lake just north of the border between Adams and Grant counties Friday evening, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

Artuoro Valdez Jr. was fishing in the northwest section of the lake, which is south of Potholes Reservoir, when he fell into the water and did not resurface, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. His brother heard the splash but couldn’t locate Valdez and he couldn’t be found by crews from Grant County Fire Districts 4 and 5, the news release said. A Sheriff’s Office diver later located Valdez in about 32 feet of water near where he fell in.

The death appeared to be accidental and an autopsy has been scheduled, the news release said.

One-car accident claims Post Falls man

A Post Falls man died in a single-car crash on Interstate 90 at 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

Alexander J. Robles, 21, was westbound when he took Exit 6 and lost control of his car on the curve, according to the Idaho State Police.

Robles’ car overturned and he was ejected from his 2001 Acura, the ISP said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash is under investigation.

Three stabbed in downtown melee

Three people received non-life-threatening stab wounds in a melee in downtown Spokane just after 9 p.m. Friday, Spokane police said.

Police responded to a report of a fight at Howard Street and Main Avenue, said Officer Teresa Fuller, Spokane Police Department spokeswoman. “Some bystanders and friends tried to separate the fight,” Fuller said.

Police said they believe Levi A. Fisher, 24, stabbed the three victims with a pocketknife. Fisher was booked into the Spokane County Jail on three counts of second-degree assault.

Fisher also was booked on misdemeanor arrest warrants for domestic violence harassment and theft.

FBI: Child porn found before Powell deaths

SALT LAKE CITY – FBI documents say investigators found child pornography on Josh Powell’s computer at least 17 months before he killed his children and himself.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported the documents showed the FBI was investigating the disappearance of his wife, Susan Powell, as well as possession of child pornography.

Anne Bremner, an attorney for Susan Powell’s parents, said the family was never told the FBI was investigating Josh Powell for child pornography.

Josh Powell ignited a fire that killed himself, 7-year-old Charlie and 5-year-old Braden at his rented home in Graham, Washington, on Feb. 5, 2012.

Rathdrum man dies in ultralight crash

POLSON, Mont. – A 62-year-old Idaho man died when his small, ultralight-style aircraft crashed in northwest Montana.

Authorities identified the pilot as Cliff Daniels, of Rathdrum, Idaho.

The crash was reported about 7:15 a.m. Saturday at an RV resort near Polson Airport. No one else was hurt and no RVs damaged.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration.
