Victim identified in Friday’s police shooting

Idaho State Police today released the name of a man who was shot by law enforcement shortly after 9 p.m. Friday in Coeur d’Alene. Thomas White, 28, of Coeur d’Alene, was fatally shot in a neighbor’s back yard after he fired a gun at police, said the Idaho State Police, which is investigating the actions of three officers involved in the incident. Officers were called to a residence in the 400 block of E. Dragonfly Drive on reports of a domestic disturbance, according to the release. By the time they arrived, White had left the house for the next-door neighbor’s backyard, and police believed he was armed with a gun. When police contacted White, “shots were fired and White was fatally wounded,” according to a news release. The ISP has not released the names of the three officers involved, citing the investigation. The officers have been placed on administrative leave. Kootenai County Coroner’s Office on Monday performed an autopsy on White.
