Obituary: Sorte, Virginia Low

SORTE, Virginia Low November 18, 1918 - June 9, 2014 Our mother and grandmother went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on June 9, 2014.

At 95 she was still the foundation and support of her ever growing family.

Along with her presence, her prayers for each family member will be dearly missed.

Mom (grandma) was born in Spokane to Edwin Low and Aleta (Hawley).

Spokane was home and she did not want to live anywhere else.

She graduated from North Central with honors in 1936, attended Kinman Business School earning a degree and continued studies at Washington State University 1938-39.

She then married and was blessed with five children.

As the years went by she continued to be blessed with 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and three great- great-grandchildren.

Mom loved to travel.

This love started at a young age.

Her grandfather, H.S.

Hawley was always up for exploring a new road or highway in his specially designed bus-motor home.

Mom being the 1st grandchild and her aunt, Shirley Hawley Hook, being the youngest of 10, grew up more like sisters and were always willing to join in these adventures.

One such trip took them all the way to Mexico and back exploring new sites along the way.

Mom was an avid reader, serious card player, especially bridge, and looked forward to the daily crossword puzzle.

She loved to dance, enjoyed a good game of golf, and the rewards of her gardening skills.

Her daily walk with the Lord and her family were always first priority.

She was an active member of Fourth Memorial Church, Bible Study Fellowship, and Christian Women’s Ministry.

She faithfully supported many faith based non-profits such as Billy Graham.

She is preceded in death by her brother Bob, sister-Phyllis Ross and three sons-in-law: Charles Stites, Keith Turner, and James Phillips.

She is survived by her three daughters; Linda (Harold) Thompson, Joyce Stites, Claire Phillips; two sons: Michael and Eric (Donna) Sorte.

We thank God for the many years we were blessed with her, knowing we will one day be reunited again- To God be the Glory.

A Celebration of Mom will be held at Hennessey Smith Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division St. Spokane, WA.

99207, on June 16, 2014 at 1:00 pm.

Following reception will be held at San Souci Clubhouse, 3231 W. Boone.
