In brief: Valley parks offer free activities

The Spokane Valley Parks Department is hosting free summer programs and activities beginning Monday at Greenacres Park, Terrace View Park and Valley Mission Park.

The activities – ranging from art projects to three-legged races – will be Monday through Thursday through Aug. 14 at:

• Terrace View Park,

13525 E. 24th Ave.,

9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

• Valley Mission Park,

11123 E. Mission Ave.,

9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

• Greenacres Park,

1311 N. Long Road,

10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The East Valley School District meals program will provide free food to children 18 and younger at Valley Mission Park and Terrace View Park. Breakfast will be at 9:30 a.m., lunch at noon.

The activities are free and there is no registration required, however these programs are not designated for drop-off child care.

Park staff members will be wearing photo ID badges.

Applications sought for planning panel

Spokane Valley is accepting applications for an opening on the Planning Commission until 4 p.m. Monday.

Applicants must be Spokane Valley residents and be interested in planning, transportation, building and landscape design, land use and capital infrastructure.

The unpaid position requires attendance at meetings generally on the second and fourth Thursdays every month at City Hall.
