Obituary: Bacon, Dorothy J.
Woman of great faith, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2014, at the age of 93, with family at her bedside.
Dorothy was deeply devoted to God, family and many friends, and taught unconditional love and adaptability to everyone around her.
Dorothy was born in Latah, Washington to Edgar and Regine (Minnie) Gullixson on February 5, 1921.
She attended schools in Newman Lake and Otis Orchards, Washington before marrying William (Bill) D. Bacon in 1938.
Bill’s construction employment had them live in Yakima, Vancouver and Kennewick, Washington.
And then Spokane became their permanent home where Dorothy worked for Brownie Baking Company and then as a dental office manager.
Throughout her life Dorothy was active in church.
She served multiple terms as an Elder and a Deacon, as well as assisting and often leading church projects.
Beginning at the age of 4 she sang solos in church.
This continued throughout her life and she often sang duets with her sister Marguerite.
In her last days singing church hymns brought her comfort.
This very talented woman loved the fabric arts, oil painting, gardening, reading, dancing and anything to do with music.
She played the violin in her early years and also piano and the organ by ear.
She consistently had a smile on her face and her laughter was contagious.
Dorothy was especially happy with any activity that brought family members together.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband William D. Bacon; son, William (Bill) E. Bacon; great-grandson, Mathew Barnett; son-in-law, Dale Kenworthy; parents, Edgar and Minnie Gullixson; sisters, Marguerite Templin and Myra Baar; and brother, Eldon Gullixson.
Dorothy is survived by daughters Sharon (Dale) Kenworthy and Shirley (Len) Anderson; her daughter-in-law, Brenda (Bill) Bacon; honorary daughter Gail (Terry) Reed; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was deeply loved and will be eternally missed.
A celebration of life will be held at her home church of over 50 years, Lidgerwood Presbyterian, at 3pm on June 21, 2014.
