People: Queen publicly celebrates birthday with ‘Trooping the Color’ parade

From Wire Reports

Hundreds of British soldiers in tall bearskin hats and ceremonial dress marched Saturday in central London for the “Trooping the Color” parade, an annual display of pomp and pageantry that marks the official birthday of Queen Elizabeth II, who turned 88 on April 21. The queen inspected more than 1,000 soldiers at Horse Guards Parade.

Other senior royals also turned out for the ceremony: Prince William and his father, Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cambridge, William’s wife, Kate, who left baby George at home, and Charles’ wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.

A huge crowd later gathered at Buckingham Palace, where the royal family appeared together on the balcony to watch a ceremonial Royal Air Force fly-past.

The Grammy winner Clarkson posted on Twitter that she and her husband, music manager Brandon Blackstock, were “on cloud 9” with the arrival of daughter River Rose Blackstock.

Sotomayor drops by Clinton signing

You never know who’ll show up at a Hillary Rodham Clinton book event.

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor dropped by Clinton’s book signing at a Costco warehouse in suburban Virginia, and surprised the former secretary of state.

Clinton shouted that she couldn’t believe it.

Sotomayor told reporters she was “just shopping” and decided to get a signed copy of Clinton’s new book, “Hard Choices.”

The Saturday morning book event attracted more than 1,000 people, including Democratic Rep. John Lewis of Georgia, Costco co-founder Jim Sinegal and a few former Clinton aides and relatives.

The potential 2016 Democratic presidential candidate autographed copies for nearly three hours.

The former first lady kicked off her book tour this week, with stops in New York, Chicago and Philadelphia.
