Impeachment for swap
Apparently we were not paying enough attention, because we now have a dictatorship, not a representative democracy. Congress passes laws and President Obama is supposed to carry them out. In the Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl case, according to the law, Congress was to be given 30 days’ notice before the prisoner exchange.
It has been reported the president and his administrators justified not following the law because they had a legal opinion saying it was not required because there were extraordinary circumstances and the law was unconstitutional.
I wonder if the attorney general, who is still in contempt of Congress – about which they are doing nothing – rendered that opinion because he is bound to defend the constitutionality of laws and obey them until overturned by the courts. The president, a former constitutional law professor, should know that principle.
As a result of this breach of his duty, he should be impeached. Will Congress act?
This will continue as long as we keep electing representatives who do not follow the structure of our federal government as established by our founders. Plato said, “Those who are too smart to engage in politics are punished by being governed by those who are dumber.”
