In brief: Trooper shoots man on I-5 in Seattle

SEATTLE – A state trooper responding to a report of a burning pickup blocking part of southbound Interstate 5 in Seattle shot and wounded a man in a bizarre drama that backed up traffic for miles.

KING-TV reported that the Washington State Patrol said one of the two troopers who responded Monday evening approached a man who left the truck and was spray painting a circle on the freeway. The State Patrol said that man came at the trooper with a knife and the trooper shot him when a stun gun had no effect.

Medics rushed a man in his 20s to Harborview Medical Center. There was no immediate word on his condition.

Man, teen aboard plane that crashed

FLORENCE, Ore. – Authorities said a 69-year-old man from Florence, Oregon, and his 15-year-old grandson from Washington state were aboard a small plane that crashed into the Pacific Ocean on Sunday morning.

The body of the grandfather, Richard Munger, was recovered Sunday. Authorities said Monday they haven’t found the teenager, identified as Benjamin Dressler.

Police car runs over man lying in road

TACOMA – A man who was lying in the street when he was run over by a Tacoma police officer is a soldier based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

The man’s wife identified him to KIRO as 22-year-old Emanuel Andrade.

Home surveillance video of the accident about 1 a.m. Saturday shows Andrade get into a car, then get out and lie in the street. A police car approaches slowly and then runs over him.

Police said the officer was looking at his computer screen and didn’t see Andrade, who was wearing dark clothing.

He suffered critical injuries and is in intensive care at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma.

Four Lakes interchange plan revised

State transportation officials announced a revised schedule for partial nighttime closures of state Highway 904 at the Four Lakes interchange with Interstate 90.

The I-90 westbound off-ramp will be closed tonight from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday.

On Wednesday evening, the westbound on-ramp and eastbound off-ramp will be closed during the same hours.

On Thursday evening, the eastbound on-ramp will be closed during those hours.

During the closures, traffic is being detoured onto Hayford and Melville roads from the Medical Lake interchange.
