Library to host food safety, preservation classes

Spokane Public Library is hosting a few upcoming food-related classes taught by food safety and preservation information specialist Anna Kestell.

Here’s a round-up:

6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Canning Basics: Getting Started. East Side Library, 524 S. Stone St. What does it take to do home canning? Kestell will cover what equipment you need, how to can safely and what cans well.

1 p.m. June 28, Making Jams and Jellies. Downtown Library, 906 W. Main Ave. Want to make your own toast toppers? Kestell will explain basic jams and jellies – and the difference between them.

4 p.m. June 28, Make Your Own Sauerkraut. Hillyard Library, 4005 N. Cook St. Kestell will teach you how to naturally ferment cabbage to create your own sauerkraut.
