Vegfest Healthy Living Expo debuts Saturday

Admission is free to the Vegfest Healthy Living Expo on Saturday.

The first-time event, sponsored by the Inland Northwest Vegan Society, takes place at Spokane Community College from noon to 6 p.m.

It features speakers, chefs, vendors, natural food providers, food and product samples, yoga, entertainment, and more.

Alison Collins, who owns Spokane’s Boots Bakery and Lounge, will demonstrate how to create baked goods and desserts without animal products.

Miyoko Schinner – chef, author, cooking instructor and PBS television host – will give vegan cheese demonstrations and samples. Ginny Messina, a registered dietitian and author of “The Vegan RD,” will talk about nutrition and the tools needed to adopt a healthy vegan diet. Lisa Kemmerer – a philosopher, activist and author – will talk about “Eating Earth: Dietary Choice and Environmental Degradation.”

Inland Northwest Vegan Society, or INVEG, is a nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness about the ethical, environmental, economic and health benefits of a plant-based diet.
