Obituary: Beck, Gerald

BECK, Gerald 1929 - 2014 Gerald “Jerry” A. Beck, 85 of Omak, died June 11th, 2014 at the Regency Care Center in Omak, WA.

Gerald was born March 3rd, 1929 to Otis and Ethel (Carstens) Beck in Wallace, Idaho.

He was raised on the family farm outside Reardan, Washington.

He attended Reardan schools and graduated in 1947.

In September 1948 he married Donna M. Murray in Medical Lake, Washington.

In 1960 he moved his family to Okanogan where he began his career in law enforcement.

He was a Deputy Sheriff from 1960 to 1965, Undersheriff from 1965 to 1972, and County Sheriff from 1972 to 1979.

During this time he attended many trainings and schools in all areas of law enforcement.

In 1974 he was the second man from Okanogan County to be invited to attend the F.B.I.

National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Jerry is a lifetime member of the Washington State Sheriff’s, Police, and Firefighter’s Association, N.C.WA Law Officers Association, Washington State Retired Law Officers Association, and the National Sheriff’s Association.

Jerry served in the Naval Reserve from 1948 to 1953, and was a member of the Okanogan American Legion Post 56.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 63 years Donna, and a brother.

He is survived by his children Michael and wife Dede, and daughter Terri.

Grandchildren: Tara and Richard Swenson.

Great-grandchildren: Mirella, Kasandra, and Javier Swenson.

At his instructions there will be no services.

Graveside services will be held at a later date.

Precht-Harrison-Nearents Chapel and Okanogan County Crematory are in care of arrangements.
