Man dies after being hit by car in North Spokane

From staff reports
A man was killed after being hit by a car in North Spokane late Thursday night. The Spokane County medical examiner identified the man who died as Melvin W. Hobbs, 50. Spokane police said Hobbs had been walking east across Ash Street at Sharp Avenue around 11:55 p.m. when he was hit by a car headed south on Ash. The woman who was driving the car stopped and was on scene when officers arrived, a news release from the police said. Investigators do not believe alcohol or speed were factors. A witness said the man was not in a crosswalk when he was hit by the car, the release said. Hobbs was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. No arrests have been made and the investigation is on-going.
