People: Yogis practice poses in Times Square

The downward-facing dog days of summer are here. Thousands of New Yorkers marked the first day of summer Saturday by practicing yoga in Times Square. Row after row of yoga mats were laid out on the street as instructors guided the participants through their poses.

“Find the balance,” one instructor urged. “Right leg high.” The yogis stretched and posed as tourists hustled on by, onlookers stopped to gape and the horns of passing taxis screeched.

The 12th annual Solstice in Times Square was sponsored by the Times Square Alliance and Athleta, Gap Inc.’s exercise-wear brand.

Marathon bomb victim back to work

A Boston Marathon bombing survivor who was photographed in an iconic image of the attacks is back at work.

The Nashua Telegraph reported 28-year-old Jeff Bauman returned to the Nashua, New Hampshire, Costco store this week, 14 months after the bombings that killed three people and injured about 260 others.

An Associated Press photo captured bloodied Bauman being hustled away in a wheelchair by rescuers including a cowboy hat-wearing Carlos Arredondo. Bauman was later able to describe to police one of the two brothers accused of carrying out the attacks. He lost both his legs above the knee.

Couric marries New York financier

Katie Couric has married a New York financier in a small ceremony at her East Hampton home.

People magazine reported the former “Today” host and John Molner took the vows on Saturday in front of 50 guests.

The 51-year-old Molner is a partner at investment firm Brown Brothers Harriman. He proposed to the 57-year-old Couric last September after nearly two years of dating.

Couric’s first husband, Jay Monahan, died in 1998 from colon cancer.

She has two grown daughters. Molner has a son and a daughter.
